Wow, can you believe that April is almost over? I seemed to have lost this month completely except for the beautiful 80 degree weather and then the polar opposite of SNOW (that dirty word). I will always remember that Mom fell on Easter Sunday but am trying to push that to the back of my mind and remember that my Jesus died and rose again.
Well Wednesday was really a kind of uneventful day for the Hickman girls. Mom ate a pretty good breakfast but was in pain from both her arm and left ankle when I arrived and when I told Melissa RN (I really like her, she is so kind) she immediately got Mom a pain pill - I forget the name, something stronger than Tylenol. Mom did not cooperate with PT and I think that was because she was hurting so much. The Hoyer lift is broken so I could not work with it. Sure hope the rental delivery man is a good trainer so I can learn with the one we get. Mom only ate 7 spoons of the broth off he soup and refused everything else at lunch.
One of the aides told me she was sure glad that I was staying all day yesterday (geepers, I only left for 4 hours the day before to get hospital supplies for home), because my mother does so much better when I am there. She said when I am not there she is afraid and yells.
I think we found out the mystery of where the stuff dog came from. The social director (Cindy, the Bingo lady) gives such things out as Bingo prizes and the nurses said they thought she gave it to her to try to calm her. She has named it Chauncey and is sleeping with it. It looks so cute as she sleeps with it in her arms.
Ashley and Meghan from PT came back in the afternoon. She didn't want to get up in the chair as she is afraid of falling. She did sit up on the side of the bed and is sitting up for longer periods of time. I hope when we get her home that she will do better.
Jack brought Mom a beautiful peony from his garden the day before the snow and Mom was still talking about it yesterday. A gorgeous deep purple so you know I love it.
Jack and Wilma came just prior to dinner and Mom ate a very good dinner. Mom made Jack hold "Chauncey" as she ate and made him kiss the dog. She ate really well, manicotti, mashed potatoes (didn't touch the veggies) and ate some salad with ranch dressing. She fed herself most of the time and then she made Wilma feed her the apple pie. Wilma told her she was getting spoiled and she just laughed. Around 7pm, she started yawning and I asked if we were boring her and she said yes. I said, "do you want us to leave" and she said yes.
We know when to make an exit! I pray that she had a good night's sleep and is willing to work with PT today.
Everyone have a great day. The Lord is giving us these chilly days so that we will appreciate the warmer days when they get here. Hey, at least no snow or cold rain today. God loves each of you and so do I.
